Camp Li-Wa is one of two camps operated by Victory Ministries of Alaska. Victory Ministries exists to evangelize and disciple children and youth in Alaska for Jesus Christ through Christian camping.
Camp Li-Wa (Living Water) was started by Don Sauer, who after serving in the war fell in love with Alaska. His heart was also drawn to youth ministry while serving at our sister camp, Victory Bible Camp, as well as a camp in northern New York. In 1959, he focused his attention on a 40 acres parcel of land only a few miles outside of Fairbanks in central Alaska. Later this footprint was increased to its current size when Wycliffe also gifted their adjoining 40 acres to Camp Li-Wa. Originally, the camp was run by Denali Bible Church until the church offered the camp to InterAct Ministries, which was already successfully operating Victory Bible Camp. Now the two camps thrive together as one organization: Victory Ministries of Alaska.
Our programs are continually growing; we offer options for campers ages 5-18, including both day camps for first time campers and week-long overnight camps for those who wish camp would last all year. The ranch program centers around horsemanship using CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) as the educational backdrop for a memorable week of fun with four legged friends. Our adventure camp explores the interior of Alaska with hiking, white water rafting, and survival training. Additionally, for those young adults ages 14-18 years our Servant and Leadership Training (SALT) program is a service-based program those who desire to model servant leadership.
From August through May, the programming continues with Li-Wa 365 and year-round horsemanship riding lessons made possible in our indoor riding arena. During this time of year, Li-Wa is also a popular venue for local churches, youth groups, or religious organizations to use our facilities to build their ministry through team building, discipleship, or conferences. Camp Li-Wa is a peaceful location, where people can seek rest as they draw closer to God through His Word and the beauty of His creation.
